DRESSCODE: Magical Morocco
Oh, the sights, the sounds, the smells, and all of the beauty of magical Marrakech. We've fallen in love with Morocco, from the free-flowing tea to the ornate decor- and of course, YSL. Inspired by that Majorelle Blue, here are our fave five pieces that take us away to that romantic city known as The Red City.
VERSACE
Jacket & Pant Suit, Versace
This vibrant blue Versace suit radiates the magic of Majorelle blue. The bold blue was patented and named after its creator, the French artist Jacques Majorelle- the original owner of the Jardin Majorelle. Originally once made from crushed lapis lazuli stones in the 15th century and reserved for painting the Virgin Mary's robes, this color was more expensive than gold. Majorelle concocted a custom pigment that recalled the precious stones and painted the gardens in the infamous blue, which were later bought by Yves Saint Laurent, becoming his creative retreat.
We love the YSL vibes we get from this Versace suit- a feminine take on menswear. A high, convertible collar and patch pockets lend a slight 70s air to this suit, while the slim straight leg and fitted silhouette keep the silhouette crisp and modern. We'd pair with leather mules in metallic leather to add a bit of Moroccan flair.
CHARLES JOURDAN
Leather Lamé Mules, Charles Jourdan
"Once I grew sensitive to light and colors, I especially noticed the light on colors … , on every street corner in Marrakech, you encounter astonishingly vivid groups of men and women, which stand out in a blend of pink, blue, green, and purple caftans."
-Yves Saint Laurent
MARGI KENT
Glitter Dance Dress, Margi Kent
Despite being known for that stunning blue hue, Marrakech is actually nicknamed The Red City (The Pink City by locals). The faded red clay and painted walls transform the city into the gleaming rose of Morocco.
CASTLECLIFF
Larry Vrba Mayan Pendant, Castlecliff
The saturated hue of Majorelle blue is in sharp contrast to the rosy pink of Marrakesh, but no less as integral to the city. Even before the Majorelle gardens, this stunning shade of blue was used throughout the country in tiles, Berber burnous, and stained glass windows of the kasbahs- which was the inspiration for Majorelle.
OSCAR DE LA RENTA

"When I discovered Morocco, it was an extraordinary shock. The city taught me color."
-Yves Saint Laurent
"There are certain places on the surface of the earth that possess more magic than others, and one of these places is Marrakech."
