Recess founder Marie Monsod adores all things sequined, beaded, metallic, and jeweled- and at Recess it's a shared love for all things that make you shine! There's no better time to take a risk than New Year's Eve. Monsod shares her FAVE FIVE foolproof NYE looks so you can go for it and be the firework of your event.
This Bob Mackie will have people bobbing their heads as you make your entrance. The silk velvet is such a luscious fabric and with the rhinestone detail it glimmers with ease. Just pair with long statement earrings, put your hair up and you are ready to go. The Jackie Rogers black velvet dress can achieve the same look at a lower price point but there’s definitely nothing short of its deep v-neck line.
As much as we love a beaded shimmery gown, we think going the tuxedo route is just as chic. This Adolfo cream silk satin jacket with rhinestone buttons can be worn with jeans, black slacks or over a long black bias dress. If you’re going for the whole look wear it with the pants. These pants have the cream satin stripe and rhinestone buttons as well. Then when the night is over, wear the pants with a rock or white tee, red lipstick of course and Lucite box bag and you’re ready to hit another night out.
The Bill Blass lace tuxedo jacket is unique because of it being lace, it isn’t necessarily a staple or basic, but we can easily see it being a staple or basic. We can see this piece styled in so many ways, from jeans to leather pants, palazzo pants, a lace mini dress or long bias dress, with heels or sneakers…and we can keep going. It’s a piece that won’t just collect dust in your closet!
Hit it hard with heavy metal, if you need to spruce up your outfit, the Chanel silk lamé and Ruben Panis velvet burnout jackets make great toppers! The Geoffrey Beene metallic lamé top and skirt set is simply just too good. Add a tassel belt, large hoops and you’ll be ready to twirl the night away. Sometimes we get asked to separate sets and we are not fans of splitting them up. Again with a set like this, you can wear the top with your favorite pair of Levi’s and wear the skirt with any tank or tee any time of the year. The Los Malerbas metallic spandex dress will have you feeling anything but blue and we see this with your hair up and of course, statement earrings.
If you’re not feeling confident with the outfit you have in mind, be the ‘Eye of the Tiger’ with this Laloon panther buckle belt. We trust people will be clawing after it all night.
Like the tuxedo jacket, a beaded jacket is our kind of staple. This Victoria Royal beaded and embroidered cropped jacket is too fun. We see this with a high waisted pant, whether tapered or wide legged, and the perfect pointed Manolo Blahnik heel.
The Loris Azzaro is perfect with jeans, a tuxedo pant or drape it over your shoulders with a long silk slip dress and strappy rhinestone satin sandals. The Fe Zandi beaded taffeta ruched number is Krystle Carrington meets Beyonce, and whether your party is disco themed or not, you’ll be the disco ball of the room!
This Anthony Ferrara rhinestone mesh dress speaks for itself. If you don’t have a budget we say yes, yes, yes, to this dress! Not only is it a hard piece to find but iconic women have rocked Ferrara’s dresses from Cher to Elizabeth Taylor. Wherever you wear this dress, you will feel like you’re wearing it at the disco.
Dance like an Egyptian in the Janine strapless gold painted dress. We’ve had this dress in many versions before but the strapless is a classic cut and beyond New Year’s you’ll be able to wear it again for any other event!
