After many months of planning, paperwork, construction, design, sourcing, and staging, the long-awaited listing day is finally here! Hopefully you've been following our journey on Instagram- if not, catch up on what it took to get us here, day by day!
The 1924 Spanish Colonial home had a complete makeover, from the inside-out. (see here for before pics). Renovations were taken all the way down to the home's foundation, ensuring a solid, quality build. The home's historic structure and style were maintained, while completely retrofitted with modern wiring, plumbing, ventilation, and insulation topped off with luxe finishings- giving prospective buyers the best of both worlds. Finally, the home was dressed in signature Recess style, combining unique vintage furnishings with a modern touch. The result is nothing short of breathtaking.
Lush hedges open up to a succulent-lined hexagonal Saltillo tiled entryway with beautiful Malibu-style tiled steps.
Inside, dramatic cove ceilings rise above soaring arched windows, creating an impressive entryway. Keeping the tall arched windows was a no-brainer, but was definitely not an easy feat. Restoring the crumbling wood frames proved to be one of the toughest tasks that required a lot of patience- but we love the results! Beautiful stained woven bamboo wood flooring and vintage light fixtures throughout.
Absolutely loving that original front door and its peephole! Marie went with her instincts and picked the first color that spoke to her, without swatching multiple options. She went with a deep navy that ran throughout the house, found in the Malibu-style tiles, Asian and African accessories, and European flourishes. The result is a rich, regal entrance bathed in natural light.
Beautiful original Batchelder fireplace with vintage sconces and decorative antelope bookends.
The opposite wall facing the windows was a perfect focal point for statement artwork. The raw edges of this bronze Brutalist piece balanced the gleaming brass-and-glass table and vases and natural floral elements. Rich textures, colors, and shapes throughout the room set the tone and establish the personality of this home.
The formal dining room is sectioned off from the living room, but still feels open and airy under the large curved archways.
An alcove becomes a showstopping bar with a beautifully stocked bar cart.
Chef's kitchen with stainless steel appliances, gorgeous Carrara marble countertops, and beautiful Spanish tile. Clean-lined brass cabinet and drawer pulls add richness, and wrought iron accents and a vintage shelf add depth. We love all of the textures and finishes!
View to the laundry room with ample storage and wraparound countertops.
Full guest bath with floral pattern hexagonal tiles, bright Malibu-style tiles, and a Carrara marble-topped double vanity with a vintage mirror.
Generously sized bathroom for the office and shared rooms- or even house visitors.
The large 3rd bedroom works as a bedroom, kid's room, or even an impressively sized home office. Dubbed "The French Room," the antique beds really add a playful sense of nobility to the space. Styled with brightly colored bold stripes and graphic prints, the modern mix of Louis XIV is perfect for a little prince or princess.
Next door, the adjacent room makes the perfect office. Styled in bold shapes and colors, we're loving the vibrant energy that radiates from this room. The burlwood desk, studded green leather armchair, sculptural lamp, antelope bookends, and vinyl rock 'n roll throne are all so stylishly cool, this room may become your next outfit inspo. It's time to get excited to work from home.
Down the hall, the guest suite (or second master) is a private oasis, complete with an ensuite bath with shower. Tucked into a corner, the spacious room is full of natural light. Brutalist wall art balances out the delicate lines of Asian aesthetics, creating a cozy and contemplative space.
In the bathroom, milky celadon green subway tiles accented with Malibu-style tile and dark woods create an intimate space, evocative of the best boutique bed-and-breakfast. Your guests may never want to leave.
The large master retreat is right around the corner, with a private hallway and ensuite spa bath fit for royalty. French doors lead to the backyard, where you can preside over the entire estate. The room is dressed in cosmopolitan finery, including silk satin, velvet, tassels, and gold leaf.
The large spa bath features watery blue tiles with a Malibu-style tile accent. A completely clear glass shower keeps the space open and airy, with a deluxe rainfall shower head and bathtub to wash away the day. Carrara marble topped vanity with enough counter space for all beauty regimes.
Extending the master retreat: seamlessly flowing to the backyard and patio.
